Bangladesh to face Turkmenistan in Asian Volleyball final

Defending champions Bangladesh reached the final of the six-nation Bangabandhu Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone International Volleyball Championship eliminating Kyrgyzstan by 3-2 sets in the keenly contested 2nd semifinal at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in the capital on Wednesday.

Hosts Bangladesh made a frustrating start in the match losing the first set to Kyrgyzstan by 15-25 points, but they leveled the margin defeating their opponent by 25-20 points while Bangladesh took lead for the first time beating their rivals by 25-19 points in the third set.

However, Kyrgyzstan neutralised the margin beating the hosts by 13-25 points in the 4th set but Bangladesh snatched the victory beating their opponent by 15-13 points in the final set.

Earlier, Turkmenistan smartly booked a seat for the title-deciding final outplaying Himalayan nation Nepal by straight 3-0 sets in the first semifinal in the afternoon. 

Bangladesh Television and Gazi TV will telecast the final live.

Hosts Bangladesh will play top ranked Turkmenistan in the final on Friday at 3 pm at the same venue while two losing semifinalists will play the 3rd place-deciding match on the same day at the same venue at 10 am. 

Turkmenistan reached the semifinal as Group B champions with an all-win record while Kyrgyzstan managed a semifinal berth as Group runners-up beating Uzbekistan by 25-18, 24-26, 19-25, 25-18, 25-13 points in the last group match on Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday, hosts Bangladesh emerged Group A champions to reach the semifinals of the tournament, also with all-win record beating the Maldives by straight 3-0 sets in their last group match after beating Nepal by 3-1 sets in the opening match on Saturday.
